Keelung
was pronounced in Chinese as meaning of "luster cage"
which wasnamed by the luster cageshape of mountain around. Now it
is pronounced as same but with different Chinese characters, which
means "rich and fertile base". We can find that keelung
was used to be an important defensive fort in north of Taiwan for
its location. In the Ching Dynasty, there were lots cannons and
batteries being built, which also indicated that how Chinese defended
outside aggression and how important Taiwan is. Therefore, these
historical vestiges represent not only a strategy of defense but
also deep spirit of modern and intelligence. So the forming of vestiges
became the witness of time. We understand the development of this
area as well as enrich the knowledge of such cultural background
while we protect and appreciate them.them.
Shinnyi District is a rectangular region locates at the center
of the Keelung City. There are many beautiful sightseeing spots
here which are just right for an outing during vacations.
